Turku Aikikai is the biggest aikido club in Turku and one largest in Finland. People have been practicing aikido in Turku since 1970, which is also the year when aikido was introduced in Finland. Turku Aikikai was founded in 1991 and it is specialised in aikido, iaido and katori shinto ryu. 

We offer possibilities to practice aikido almost every day. Turku Aikikai has about 225 practitioners, which includes a fair amount of children as well. We are resident at the Shaolin Dojo in the centre of Turku, in which you may also practice karate, jujutsu, escrima, asahi, judo, wingtsun and taiji. 

Our head instructor is Kari Tamminen 6th dan, who has been practicing aikido since it arrived in Finland. Nowadays Kari is Endo Shihan's student.
We also follow the teachings of Yasuo Kobayashi Sensei 8th dan and Kazuo Igarashi Sensei 7th dan. They both are respected Aikikai aikido teachers. We also practice Tetsutaka Sugawara Sensei’s jo and bokken forms.

We believe in joyful and earnest training atmosphere and welcome all aikido practitioners to visit and practice at our dojo. We have had visitors from many countries and we have practiced in many dojos abroad, whenever we have had the opportunity. 

Turku Aikikai is a member of Finland Aikikai, which is recognised by the Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Tokyo.
